During their second annual week of giving back to communities in Southwest Florida, the Boston Red Sox will be doing community service at the Amigos Center in Immokalee. This is what was written as part of their press release:
“For many years we have supported various fundraisers in Southwest Florida and last year we began adding additional activities to highlight the good work of organizations in Lee County that, every day, are serving people here who are most in need,” said Larry Lucchino, Red Sox President/CEO. “This year we look forward to branching out even further into the community to celebrate the opening of JetBlue Park and Fenway South and spend time helping even more of our community neighbors.”
Tuesday, Feb. 28 and Wednesday, Feb. 29, Red Sox uniformed personnel and front office staff will spend the afternoons volunteering at the Amigos Center, Special Equestrians, Community Cooperative Ministries, Inc.,
Treeline Elementary, the VA Outpatient Clinic and the African Caribbean American Catholic Center.
Immigration Specialist, Christina Leddin, writes:
Today I talked to the wife of a client that I had reviewed their self-prepared immigration case. As of yesterday, I am happy to say that her 97 year old Canadian husband now has legal permanent residency (green card) in the United States. The Canadian man and his U.S. citizen wife, who have been married for approximately 20 years, drove yearly to Canada for six months so that he could maintain his legal status as a Canadian visitor in the U.S. The couple felt that they were no longer able to make the yearly trek to Canada and that is when they called Amigos Center for guidance to apply for the green card. I saw the couple once and assisted them each step of the way over the telephone. Now the husband can stay permanently in the U.S. and will be eligible for U.S. citizenship in 2 years and 9 months.
We have begun production of our new 2012 video, “I Am An Amigo”. Here, our videographer records a testimony by one of our long time “amigo” (friend), Veronica Lopez.
Be one of the first to see the video at our annual luncheon on March 28th!
Pastor Robert Selle was given the opportunity to be on D’Latinos al Dia. They talked to him about receiving the FACE Award as well as the Newcomer’s Information Guide (Guia) produced each year by the Amigos Center. Check out the clip.
