Amigos en Cristo
In 1997, the Southwest Florida Circuit of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod called Rev. Robert V. Selle to do outreach to thegrowing Spanish speaking community. Their goal was to plant new Spanish speaking churches and help their churches do effective outreach to the nations coming to us. The Bible teaches to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19). The churches recognized that the nations were coming to us, and to go to them was to simply reach out to the community around us.
In 1999, the Amigos Center was founded in order to be God’s hands and feet by attending to the physical, mental, and emotional needs that many immigrant families face. The first center was a store front in Bonita Springs, doing case management. Soon the outreach branched out to offer legal Immigration services. What started with three part time employees and one location has now grown to span two counties, having offices in Naples, Bonita Springs, Fort Myers, and Immokalee.
