We are sending six teenagers (three Hispanic and three Haitian) to the Teen Leadership Summit hosted by the Florida-Georgia District LCMS in Lakeland, Florida this August. Karl Glander and Daphcar Beldor will serve as chaperons. One of the teen leaders is Yulisa. She was baptized by Pastor Selle last year and is now in confirmation class. While at the summit our teen will learn leadership skills that will serve them well both in the church as well as outside. Pray for them.
Volunteer teacher Sue Chapman is pictured with some of her students. We currently have three volunteer teachers at our Immokalee Amigos Center working with 74 enrolled English students. Students are gradually using our English language learning lab with more frequency. When not in class with their teacher, students are encouraged to log onto our Rosetta Stone software to work on their English language skills. More students are returning to class now that the work in the fields has stopped during the summer months.
Rev. Andre Mezilus (Haitian Church Pastor), Rev. Robert Selle (Executive Director/Pastor), Daphcar Beldor (Receptionist), Maria Rodriguez (Senior Volunteer), Karl Glander (Service Director). Our newest staff member is Daphcar. She arrived from Haiti ten years ago and graduated from Immokalee High School. She is a mother of two young children and serves as a Sunday School teacher with our Immokalee Haitian church.
Christina Leddin (Immigration Specialist), Marisol Dickerson (Administrative Assistant), Donna Selle (Bookkeeper), Rev. Bob Selle (Executive Director/Pastor), Maria Herrera (Immigration Specialist) and Sheila Morales (Parish Nurse).
Our Hispanic and Haitian volunteers in Immokalee treated the members of Trinity Lutheran Church, Cape Coral, to a special Advent meal on Wednesday, December 5. Over 70 people enjoyed the home made food. Pastor C. J. focused the mid-week Advent worship service that night on Christmas traditions of Mexico and Haiti. We see in these meals the unity of the body of Christ and an image of the celestial banquet that awaits us in Christ.
Sunday, October 7, 2012 was a big day for us at our Immokalee Lutheran Church as we baptized five young people, confirmed three and celebrated first communion for three others. Thanks be to God for what he is doing in the life of these young saints.
Last Sunday the Bonita Church held a church picnic to fellowship together and as a back-to-school celebration. We played water and indoor games. The children were absolutely thrilled to receive these gifts. Even the babies picked out their favorite ones. Smiles galore! Thank you to Diane Kral who donated more than ten boxes of stuffed animal of all sizes.
Over 30 children attended our Vacation Bible School this summer! The Sonrise National Park theme that Covenant Church of Naples brought to Immokalee was a delightful way to point children to Jesus! We are so blessed to have had this opportunity to provide something so great to the children of Immokalee. Thank you Covenant Church and the countless volunteers who made this possible as well as our dedicated staff in Immokalee.
Last week we had the privilege to baptize the Soriano children in Immokalee, adding three more members to the family of God! Immigrant families often feel lonely here, far from their family, and it is exciting to connect them to their extended family of God.
With great thanks to generous donors and volunteers, our Amigos Center and church in Immokalee has gotten an extreme makeover! Here are some of the pictures of what has been done, with more to come!
