Last Sunday the Bonita Church held a church picnic to fellowship together and as a back-to-school celebration. We played water and indoor games. The children were absolutely thrilled to receive these gifts. Even the babies picked out their favorite ones. Smiles galore! Thank you to Diane Kral who donated more than ten boxes of stuffed animal of all sizes.
Over 30 children attended our Vacation Bible School this summer! The Sonrise National Park theme that Covenant Church of Naples brought to Immokalee was a delightful way to point children to Jesus! We are so blessed to have had this opportunity to provide something so great to the children of Immokalee. Thank you Covenant Church and the countless volunteers who made this possible as well as our dedicated staff in Immokalee.
Last week we had the privilege to baptize the Soriano children in Immokalee, adding three more members to the family of God! Immigrant families often feel lonely here, far from their family, and it is exciting to connect them to their extended family of God.
We would like to thank everyone who attended our open house on May 19th to celebrate our recent renovations in Immokalee. During our open house, Bonnie Williamson-Craven was presented with a plaque as a token of appreciation for her selfless contributions of time, talent and funding for our Center in Immokalee. As we settle into our newly remodeled space, we pray for continued growth in our outreach in sharing the Gospel as well as growth in our English and adult education programs.
See our previous post with pictures from the renovations.
Olga and her husband Luis (speakers at our annual banquet in March) proudly smile with her certificate of naturalization! Olga became a US Citizen on May 3, 2012. Amigos Center helped Olga, Luis and their two children become US Citizens!
Couples in Bonita Springs and Immokalee enjoyed a great weekend of marriage enrichment activities on April 27 to 29. Mark Kempff, of the Center for Hispanic Studies at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis led a weekend workshop for more than 17 families. This activity is part of our ongoing effort to reach out to Hispanic couples with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. More than twenty children also participated in special activities designed for them while their parents participated in the workshops. If the father and the mother are strong in their love and support for each other, their children will flourish. Two couples who are currently receiving pre-marriage instruction from Pastor Selle also attended the weekend events.
In the month of May we plan on launching a third cycle of weekend Marriage Enrichment Retreats involving a group of ten families.
With great thanks to generous donors and volunteers, our Amigos Center and church in Immokalee has gotten an extreme makeover! Here are some of the pictures of what has been done, with more to come!
We were able to bless many children and families this Easter with special baskets to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus. It was a joyous occasion! For more pictures check out our Facebook page.
We are grateful for the many friends who came to support the ministry at our annual fundraising luncheon at the Hilton in Naples. It was a great event with powerful stories, vision for the future, and over 200 friends in attendance. Thank you to all who attended and thank you to the many volunteers who dedicated themselves to making this event a success!
Alonzo Martin, Consul for Mexican Communities led a Mobile Consulate at the Bonita Springs Amigos Center, Saturday, March 10. The Consulate served over 340 Mexican nationals living in South West Florida. Qualifying Mexicans were issued passports and Consular ID cards.
Amigos Center provided 14 volunteers to help aid this effort. In order for Mexicans to receive legal residency or U.S. citizenship, they must have a valid passport.
This outreach helps us develop a relationship of trust and friendship with Mexicans living in our community.
