Couples in Bonita Springs and Immokalee enjoyed a great weekend of marriage enrichment activities on April 27 to 29. Mark Kempff, of the Center for Hispanic Studies at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis led a weekend workshop for more than 17 families. This activity is part of our ongoing effort to reach out to Hispanic couples with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. More than twenty children also participated in special activities designed for them while their parents participated in the workshops. If the father and the mother are strong in their love and support for each other, their children will flourish. Two couples who are currently receiving pre-marriage instruction from Pastor Selle also attended the weekend events.
In the month of May we plan on launching a third cycle of weekend Marriage Enrichment Retreats involving a group of ten families.
We were able to bless many children and families this Easter with special baskets to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus. It was a joyous occasion! For more pictures check out our Facebook page.
Thank you to State Farm and the Hispanic Chamber of Southwest Florida for your generous school supplies donation to help families in need. The Immokalee families who received the supplies are extremely grateful as are we. Thank you for your support of the community!
Thirty children participated in the first day of our week long Immokalee Vacation Bible School. Under the direction of Grace Lutheran Church of Naples, Director of Christian Education, Kami Jo, and her group of volunteers, the children enjoyed play time outdoors, Bible Stories about Moses, crafts, songs and snacks. According to Pastor Selle, this VBS helps us proclaim the Gospel of Jesus in a relevant and understandable way to the Hispanic and Haitian children who live in Immokalee. We are very thankful for Kami Jo and the people of Grace Lutheran for sharing their time and talent with us. Our ministry is largely volunteer driven and we count heavily on the dedication and service of people like Kami Jo to complete our mission.
We had a fun Palm Sunday. Tommy Hilfiger store managers from Estero to Lakeland came to Immokalee and Bonita with Easter eggs for the kids. They hid them and the kids found them and had a great time. We celebrated Palm Sunday with 51 friends in our Immokalee Spanish worship and 83 at Bonita.
