It was a terrific day for English yesterday! Over 28 students present between our two classes! If you are interested in volunteering to teach English in Immokalee, let us know! We would love to have you.
With great thanks to generous donors and volunteers, our Amigos Center and church in Immokalee has gotten an extreme makeover! Here are some of the pictures of what has been done, with more to come!
Rev. Steve Hess, recently retired from Zion Lutheran Church, Fort Myers, has begun serving as mentor for Andre Mezilus. Andre is enrolled in the Ethnic Immigrant Institute of Theology, at Concordia Seminiary, St. Louis, MO. This is a distance education program leading to ordination of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. The course work is done using the web-based Blackboard program. The student does extensive readings each week along with written assignments and participates in web-based discussion groups with other students. Each lesson also has a practical pastoral application which the mentor and student discuss. Andre’s current course is Church History up to 1500 AD.
We recently recognized ten people who provide volunteer services at our Immokalee Amigos Center with a special luncheon. Pictured with Pastor Selle are ten of the many volunteers who provide English classes, literacy classes, emergency food, used clothes, administrative and janitorial services. They volunteer at least one day a week. Because of their faithful service, all were given official Amigos Center shirts. Next time you come to the Immokalee Amigos Center, give a special thank you to our staff and volunteers.
